Essential Billiard Table Accessories

A pool table all by itself isn’t very fun. Before you actually get to get down to the business of playing on your brand new table, you absolutely need a few things to go with it.

Table Cover - If you want your billiard cloth to last as long as possible, then a high quality table cover is a must have. It will protect your felt from dirt and dust, thus preserving appearance and the smoothness of the playing surface. Be sure the length of the table cover matches the length of the table you purchased. Tables can either be plastic or leather, but a high quality leather cover is generally preferred because of its durability and appearance.

Billiard Balls – Of course, you also must have a high quality set of billiard balls. If you want your table to have a really classy look, then you need a good set of classic “solids and stripes” two inch pool balls. But there are a lot of other options for the more adventurous. Pool Cues - A set of pool cues is simply a must have. Pool cues can range in price anywhere from ten dollars to several hundred, depending upon the design and level of performance you are seeking.

Bridge Head or Bridge Cue – What happens when you need to make a shot somewhere all the way across a table? That’s where you either break out your special bridge cue or attach your bridge head to an unused cue. That way, you can rest your cue on the end of the metal or plastic bridge to make that tricky shot.

Billiard Cue Stand - You don’t want your pool cues to just be sitting in a pile somewhere in the corner, that’s why you need a good pool cue stand to proudly display them in your billiard room. There are two types of cue stands: the kind that stand on the ground the kind that hang on the wall. If you are pressed for space in your billiard room, a wall mounted stand is a smart choice.

Triangle and Diamond- The two most popular games in billiards are eight ball and nine ball, and when you have a triangle and diamond rack on hand, you will be ready to play either at a moment’s notice. While you can get fairly cheap billiard triangles and diamonds made of plastic, it is better to get higher quality ones made of stained wood.

Table Brush - Taking a little time to groom your billiard felt every once in a while can do wonders towards making it last a long time and ensure a smooth, fast playing surface every time you play.

Billiard Chalk – A steady supply of chalk is totally necessary in order to have the best control over the ball. You can buy the little cubes in cartons so that you can always have a bit of pool chalk to grab every time your rack up.
